Three murals have been installed in southeast Newport News featuring prominent names from the area. The first of Ella Fitzgerald was installed around April last year, followed by civil rights leader W. Hale Thompson , the most recent features actress and singer Pearl Bailey.  These murals are the work of artist Asa Jackson , who grew up in Newport News, VA.
