Bark - 12 Peachtober

I took a stroll one afternoon

To a park around the block from me.

A new neighborhood site

the city seemed to have built overnight

And that’s when I saw an old tree

A giant compared to those around

A trunk that was so wide.

I sat under it for a moment

To take a break -

From the heat

I wanted to hide.

So many branches and large leaves

And its roots ran real long

It’s bark was rough and furrowed

But held many birds that sang a song.

Seagull - 11 Peachtober

On a hot sunny day

I thought a trip to the beach would be quite nice.

I packed up all of my belongings

and even thought I’d take my bike.

I made a few sandwiches -

Some lemonade and tea.

Packed a few extra

In case someone would want to eat with me

I arrived very quickly

Set my blanket in the sand

Started eating a delicious lunch

But it was taken out of my bare hands

A seagull was just spying

While flying way high above

Took my lunch away from me

A sandwich that I loved.

Critter - 10 Peachtober

One evening while I was snoring

I was awakened by a clawing

A scratching and a gnawing

I wondered what it was that could

Be making such a noise

So I arose and started searching

Looking over and underneath

Shifting all of my belongings

Looking beneath my bare feet

And guess what it was

That was making such a racket

Not sure how it made it in my room -

A tiny bunny rabbit.

Rope - 09 Peachtober

It is quite the sight to see

If I do say so myself.

When the playground is filled with chatter

Kids pick me up

And make me feel so flattered.

They sing so many songs -

Various melodies fill the air.

“A goose drank wine?”

“A Grandma is sick?”

And

“An elephant jumped so high?”

They spin me around

While jumping up and down

Until the bell is rung…

And at the end of the day

I must say we’ve had so much fun!

Leaf - 08 Peachtober

I grew upon this branch

A bright green for most of my life

A chill wind came, then I became

Amber colored and quite crisp.

I fell towards the ground

Away from a tree I knew so well -

A breeze gently guiding me

On a wonderful kind of tryst.

Strawberry - 07 Peachtober

I guess I’m a delightful fruit

That’s what others have said of me.

And there’s never been

a shortage of my use

So I live happily

You can probably find me in your cereal

Your choice of ice cream and your jam

I go great on buttered toast

And lay nicely on cured ham.

I can do it all on my own

But I’m often paired with help

Kiwis and Bananas are often there

To help me keep my pep
