I'm almost done with the second series of dogs. There’s another grouping of six that'd I’d like to complete after this one and then a grouping of four. I think I started the first set around this time last year.

O’ Captain is the title of my piece for Something In The Water Festival.
I tend to write and jot down simple rhymes when I think of them. ”I talk to air, I talk to sea, I talk to all that resides in me!” seemed like a good start and jump off to go with. The idea that how we speak and command ourselves throughout our lives is important and can take us wherever we wish. I wanted to depict a kid using his imagination and words to charge forth into the sea.
Invictus
William Ernest Henley
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.
Tasting Room at Smartmouth Brewing Company Headquarters - Norfolk, VA.
Smartmouth Brewing Co. invited me to do a chalk mural earlier this month. These are usually switched out every few months and are based on events or a new beer release. I was given the theme “Alter Ego” based on one of Smartmouth’s year round flavor of beers.
My initial thoughts were to do something portrait based where you could match characters up. A few things popped into my mind, one being a childhood game called Guess Who?, the card game Old Maid, and Where’s Waldo - a children’s puzzle book.
I decided to lean more in the direction of the board game idea and drew out squares that would be filled with one character in a normal or settled pose that could then be matched up with their alter-ego.
In the mural that's completed you’ll find a singer or musician, a chef, a superhero, and finally the Smartmouth mascot.
I enjoyed working on the mural and it’ll be up until Memorial Day. Thanks Smartmouth!
I've been focused on dogs lately and working to complete a four set series. But wanted to post up some collage work.
Harder 2 Make Cents - mixed media
This was done awhile back and started off as separate cardboard collage pieces that I ended up pulling apart to make into a single piece.
